Dipotassium Phosphate

Dipotassium phosphate (DKP) is an inorganic compound. With buffering, chelating and corrosion inhibition properties as well as high phosphorus and potassium content, it is commonly used for fertilisers, water treatment, detergents and food production.

Overview

A white or colourless water-soluble salt, this inorganic compound is manufactured by neutralising phosphoric acid with potassium chloride.

We are a leading manufacturer, supplier and distributor of dipotassium phosphate. This is available in a range of bulk sizes to meet your specific requirements. Technical grade is available as a solution, whilst food grade comes as a powder.

As a source of phosphorus and potassium — essential nutrients for promoting plant health — this chemical can be adopted into fertilisers as a primary or secondary nutrient source. A water soluble compound, it dissolves easily in soil for easy takeup by crops.

In water treatment, the compound can be used as a buffering agent to stabilise pH levels by reacting with acidic substances. DKP can also chelate calcium and magnesium ions, making it an effective corrosion and scale inhibitor in water systems. It can also be used to control the amount of phosphorus in a water system, avoiding excess amounts being discharged into the environment.

DKP can act as a pH stabiliser and water softener in the manufacture of laundry, dishwasher and other detergents. As a chelating agent, it binds to ions that can affect the cleaning process, enhancing the effectiveness of the product.

Categorised as a safe food additive, DKP has emulsifying, stabilising, buffering and texturising qualities — increasing the stability, flavour, texture and shelf life of products. It is used as an imitation dairy creamer, helping to prevent coagulation and curdling in dairy-free products. In processed cheese products, DKP can buffer pH and promote emulsification by interacting with milk proteins.

DKP is sometimes used in fitness products. It plays a role in the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), a molecule required for energy. The potassium present in DKP means it can also be used itself as a potassium source in supplements. In soy protein drinks, DKP can act as a dispersing agent, stabilising soy proteins.
