With our net zero goal set for 2045 we have been working hard to introduce new measures on site to reduce our carbon footprint and create a more sustainable and efficient working site.
Working with environmental specialists, Delta Simons, and in line with the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) Framework, one of the key ways we identified to help achieve this goal was reducing our energy consumption on site. As part of this scheme we have:
- Installed a voltage optimisation unit in our production switch room which regulates the voltage of incoming power which will reduce our electricity use by an average of 8%.
- Fitted a new roof and steam heater on our effluent water plant which reduces heat loss and therefore requires less gas to generate steam.
- Installed a ‘hotbox’ which provides a more energy efficient way to melt solid matter into liquids.
- Upgraded the lagging on our steam transfer mains which has reduced the amount of heat lost and therefore requires around £19000 less gas each year.
- Installed invertors on 12 of our transfer pumps and two scrubber fan units which allow them to run with a greatly reduced power usage.
- Carried out an audit to detect potential leaks in the compressed air network which has reduced the amount of electricity used to replace lost air.
- Installed LED lighting in four warehouses and main offices which have also reduced the amount of electricity used by over £6000 annually and saves 15609 kg of Co2 each year.
