Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STPP) Water Treatment

STPP’s sequestering and dispersing properties make it an effective scale and corrosion inhibitor in water systems.

Overview

STPP effectively binds with calcium carbonate and ions. This softens the water, reducing the risk of scale build-up in pipes, boilers and cooling systems.

By forming complexes with dissolved metal ions, STPP stabilises water chemistry, limiting metal ion activity and the reactions that contribute to corrosion. This helps to extend the service life of the water systems.

Applications

Water Treatment

• Sequestering: binds with ions such as calcium and magnesium to inhibit scale formation
• Dispersing: keeps fine particulates and solids suspended, preventing sediment build-up
• Corrosion resistance: helps to reduce pipework corrosion by stabilising metal ions and maintaining balanced water chemistry
• pH control: acts as a buffering agent, stabilising pH levels and improving the effectiveness of other treatment chemicals
• System cleanliness: aids in removal of dirt, grease and organic matter by breaking down deposits and preventing them from redepositing on surfaces
