Formic acid is a colourless acid made catalytically from carbon monoxide and steam.
• Used as a preservative in foods and to create artificial flavours and scents
• Used as an intermediate for cleaning, tanning, and acidifying preparations, as well as an additive for greases and fungicides
• Formic acid is used in the synthesis of chemicals and pharmaceuticals, and as a pH regulator in neutralizing the alkaline environment
